Sivasagar Historical Places

5  Most Amazing Historical Places of Sivasagar

1. Charaideo

The 1st and foremost reason is Charaideo. Ahom king Chawlung Sukaphaa first established his kingdom at Charaideo in 1253 A.D.

From this place, we found the knowledge and the wisdom of powerful Ahom’s. The body of the dead king buried there with such a respect. I think like this, no other such example would be found in any other place of Assam.

Charaideo Maidam is standing today as an introduction to the history of Ahom’s; who were the real creators of the Assam state. Today Charaideo is an autonomous district but before 2016, It was a part of Sivasagar.

2. Monasteries

There are a lot of temples in Sivasagar district but wait just for a while, As you think these temples are not very normal. Because all these temples built in a very strange way.

Materials like Bora Rice (Sticky rice) and Duck eggs used to make all the monasteries.

These old monasteries built before around 300-400 years ago. But it is quite strange to believe that these all are still standing proudly and carrying the sign of the great Assam history.

Examples: Joydol, Devi temple, Vishnu temple, Shiva temple etc (Built during the ages of King Rudra Singha, Shiva Singha).

3. Sivasagar Tank

It is the oldest tank of the state. Queen Ambika made this tank, which is also one of the largest humans made tank in Asia.

In 1734, Queen Ambika made this remark in the memory of her loving husband, Swargadeo Siva Singha

According to some calculation, this tank is Asia’s largest human-built tank. Today people from the country and abroad come to see this great sign of Assam history.
