Along with Assamese culture, he had a great contribution to the whole Indian cultural development. Including a great singer, he was also a writer, film producer-director and a romantic poet.
Due to so many talents, today still after death people remember him as the ‘romantic genius’ of India.

The early life of Bhupen Hazarika Biography
Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 at Sadiya (during the age of British Raj).
Father was Nilakanta Hazarika and mother Santipriya Hazarika.
His father was originally from Najira (today Nazira). It is a small town of Assam’s Sivasagar district.
Formation by ten siblings he was the eldest among all. Hazarika’s mother belonged to a musical background and therefore his mother inspired him a lot in music.
At the age of 10, Bhupen started to sing in the Assamese language and in 1936 he recorded his first song. In his first recording, Joytiprasad Agarwala inspired him a lot.

In 1936, after singing songs in Joytiprasad Agarwala’s Indramalati film, in 1937, Bhupen Hazarika started singing in All India Radio. It provided him a very big break in his career of singing and entering in the Assamese film industry.
Bhupen Hazarika was not only an artist during his whole life. But also he was also a good politician from Assam state assembly.
In 1960’s he was an independent Minister of Local Area (MLA).
After Lakshyadhar Choudhury in 1993, he selected as the president of Assam Sahitya Sabah at sibsagar venue and remained till 1994.
He married a woman named Priyambada Patel. She was a close relative of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s family.
They both met each other at Colombia University in 1950. In the 1950s’ 5 November Mr.Hazarika married Priyambada Patel.
They birth a child after two years in 1952, Who they named Tej Bhupen Hazarika. And they went back to India in 1953.
At the age of forty, Bhupen Hazarika met a Bengali film personality, named Kalpana Lajmi and passed his later life with her.
Many analyzers of his life also want to say that because of the relationship with Kalpana Lajmi, his wife Priyam Hazarika (Priyambada Patel) left him out alone.
In 2011, November 5 -At the age of 85, Mr. Hazarika died due to multi-organ failure. His body lay in Guwahati George field and people from all over Assam came there to say him Good Bye for forever.

Bhupen Hazarika Setu
Bhupen Hazarika setu or Dhola Sadiya bridge is the largest river pool in India. Its connecting Assam (Dhola) and Arunachal Pradesh (Sadiya) together. This largest bridge covers around 10 km distance. As showing respect to the great Assamese artist. This bridge was named by Bhupen Hazarika Setu on 27 May 2017.
